Thank You for being There!

The year is almost over.
For all of us this means an end and a new beginning.
It’s just a convention, as life goes on as usual, but in our heads we conclude with the old and start with something new.
We are also more aware of our age. Another year passed.
For many it is a difficult time. May it pass quickly. Then everything can go back to business as usual and our routine gets us back again.
Others perceive it as the best time of year. Childhood memories are being awakened. The eyes of our children reflect forgotten sensations.
Nobody is left untouched this time of the year.

For us and the Maya Guesthouse project, it also means taking a look back.
Back to all the people who have accompanied us since the first days. People who help shape this project. Friends who support us and push us. People, we never met and who read this blog,  encourage us and share our enthusiasm. People, who connect themselves on a daily basis on various social media with us to follow the development of the Maya Guesthouse.
In this real world, that today is also a virtual one, people are in constant movement. They transport ideas, thoughts, feelings, energy, work, force.
Without these people our project would not be possible.

The year 2012 is the year of the Maya.
This famous Maya calendar ends on  December 21st or 23rd 2012.
For many this is a concern. Not for us.
For us the year 2012 means the beginning of an unusual experience.
We are moving into new territory. We will welcome customers in the Maya Guest House. Many will experience how it is to sleep in a straw bale house. This might encourage them to see things differently. To reconsider the construction of their house. To seek for alternatives. Perhaps even to see the future somewhat brighter.

Energy and environmental issues are already dominating our every day life. They will much more in the future.
There is absolutely no reason to worry.
It is up to us to change things. Our children will change things.
Everything is continuously subject to change. Nothing ever was the way it always used to be.
We will get rid of old habits and adopt new ones. We always have.
The ability of alteration has enabled us as species to survive and to develop ourselves.
When I look at my children, I have great confidence.
If make little modifications today, tomorrow they will change the world.

When I look through this virtual window, I see that we all have come much closer.
We exchange ideas, we get to know each other.
We are changing the political landscape.
We get rid of despots and force our leaders to take our will seriously.

The world of tomorrow will be a better one.
The world of tomorrow has always been a better one.
The good old days is today.

Thank you for being there.

About The Maya Guesthouse

The Maya Guesthouse is the first hotel built with straw bales. This hotel is situated on 1300 meters in the Swiss Alps. We took 250 tons of CO2 and stocked them into the walls. Valais and Swiss specialties are served in our restaurant. Join us on Facebook!

  2. Hi Louis,
It would be great to come over to your guesthouse with my polaroids and Holgas and do a series on your village. I don’t see it happening any time soon though.
    Lovely photos
